31 Best Battery Powered Security Cameras

In general, there are two groups of security cameras: wired or wireless. Within these two groups, there are two subgroups (wired: Power over Ethernet, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems. Wireless: wireless, wire free). The only difference between wireless and wire free is that wireless still uses an electrical connection as a power source.

When you hear the term wireless in reference to security cameras, it usually refers to how video is sent to storage. Wired means there is a physical wire that connects the camera to the DVR/ NVR, and wireless means that the video is sent via Wi-Fi.

As I’ve noted in on this site, my favorite type of security camera is the wire-free camera. I like these cameras because they can be placed just about anywhere, as long as it has a power source and a connection to the Wi-Fi.

In this post, I created a list of 31 battery powered security cameras for your home. Included in this list is the camera, features, what I like about the camera, and what I don’t like.

At the end of this post is a reference to each camera. If you want to learn more about the camera simply copy the reference into Google and hit enter.

Still not sure, click here to take a look at my favorite wire free security cameras.

Arlo Pro

The Arlo Pro Security System Kit includes a base station and at least one security camera. The base station includes local storage and an emergency siren. The camera is IP65 weather resistant rated includes advanced motion detection.

What I like

I like that this camera offers free 7-day cloud storage. Many cameras on this list (including my favorite on this list) charge a monthly fee to save your events in the cloud. I am also a huge fan of two-way audio. I like to talk to people even when I’m not home.

Possible drawback

I am not a huge fan of a base station on wire-free cameras. Because base stations must be plugged in, it’s kind of cheating to say its wire free. I am also concerned with the magnetic wall mounts that come with the cameras. I feel that the cameras could move or fall off in very high winds.

Arlo Pro 2

The Alro Pro 2 is the upgraded version of the Arlo Pro. The 2 captures events in 1080P resolution, has motion zones, and a 3 second look back. Like the Pro, the 2 has local and free 7-day cloud storage.

What I like

I like the option to look back to see what happened before the event. I also like that Arlo includes rechargeable batteries with the security kit.

Possible drawback

Like the Pro, I don’t like the wall mount. I feel like I shouldn’t have to pay extra for a more secure camera. Also, this camera uses an upgraded base station, and I am not a fan of base stations.

Ring Spotlight Cam Battery

Full disclosure: I own 2 of these cameras.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Battery is 1 of only a few cameras that activate a spotlight upon detecting motion. This camera features twi-way audio, live and remote viewing, and cloud storage.

What I like

The main reason why I purcahsed this camera is the spotlight. I really like the automatic light when my wife pulls into the driveway at night. Also, I like the second battery slot, and the optional solar panel.

Possible drawback

A second battery is almost a mandatory if you live in a high traffic area or adjust the sensitivity of the camera. Also, I feel like the spotlight could be a little brighter and the event notifications should be at least 1 minute.

Blink XT

The Blink XT (an Amazon product) is a 1080P IP65 weatherproof rated camera configured for both indoor and outdoor use. In addition to the usual features, this camera also monitors the temperature and provides instant alerts

What I like

I like that this camera will work for up to 2 years with 2-AA batteries. Of course this depends on the settings and the amount of traffic the area receives, but it’s still a cool feature. Also, I like the free cloud storage.

Possible drawback

One possible drawback is that this camera only has one-way audio, meaning you can hear them, but they cannot hear you. Another possible drawback is the night viewing quality. A member in my Facebook group posted a few disappointing pictures taken at night.

Lorex Wire Free Surveillance System

This system combines wired and wire free technology by using battery powered cameras with a Network Video Recorder (NVR). Each camera can be installed up to 450 feet away from the NVR. This system includes a 1 Terabyte hard drive and color night vision.

What I like

I like that this camera records color night vision. Usually, cameras that record at night only record in black and white. I also like that you can place these cameras up to 450 feet away from the NVR.

Possible drawback

In general, I am not a fan of physical hard drives and NVRs. Physical hard drives will fail, and if you don’t have the recordings backed up, you will lose your recordings. Also, if a criminal where to break in and take the NVR, they have taken the hard drive and the storage.

Swann Wire free Security Camera

The Swann Security Camera features a 120-degree viewing angle and 1080P high definition resolution. In addition, this camera features the ability to distinguish between people, pets, and cars with a feature called “true detect.”

What I like

I like the wide viewing angle and the push notifications to your smartphone or tablet. Also, I like that you can configure the event duration between 10 and 60 seconds.

Possible drawback

One possible drawback is the 3-4 week battery life. Of course the battery life depends on how you configure the camera and the amount of traffic, but 3-4 weeks seems short. Also, this camera comes with only 2 days of free cloud storage, with the opportunity to upgrade to 30+ days for an additional cost.

Arlo Go

The Arlo Go is the first camera on this list that works with a cellular network. Instead of connecting to the internet via your Wi-Fi, the Go works like your cell phone. In addition, this camera is IP65 weatherproof rated, and has both local and cloud storage.

What I like

I like that this camera also has free cloud storage and works with major cell phone providers. In addition, I like that this camera has two-way audio and that a rechargeable battery is included.

Possible drawback

Possible drawbacks include limited night vision (25 feet), and motion detection of 23 feet. Also, this camera “only” records in 720P resolution.

Logitech Circle 2

The Logitech Circle 2 Security Camera has a very wide 180-degree viewing angle, night vision, and two-way audio. In addition, this camera records in 1080P resolution.

What I like

I like that you can records events up to 60 seconds at a time. I also like that the push notifications include snapshots of the recorded event. Finally, I like that you can watch an entire days worth of events in 20 seconds.

Possible drawback

I am a little concerned that this camera comes with a 24 hours of cloud storage. Also, a possible drawback is that a number of the good features come with an additional monthly or yearly fee. For example, additional days of storage, motion detection, and person detection all sit behind a paywall.

Remo+ Over the Door Smart Camera

This is the first camera that I’ve seen that is designed for the apartment dweller. This camera sits at the top of a door and waits for motion. In addition, this camera has 160-degree field of view and includes two-way audio.

What I like

I like the concept of placing the camera at the top of your door. The installation takes less that 15 minutes and you can communicate with your guest without coming to the door.

Possible drawback

One possible drawback is that this camera is designed to work with doors that are 1-3/8″ to 2″ thick and the door must be push to open. This will not work for sliding glass doors, or doors that exceed the aforementioned thickness.

EZVIZ Network Surveillance Camera

The EZVIZ Network Surveillance Camera includes infrared night vision, 101-degree viewing angle and local storage. In addition, the camera records video at 15 frames per second and has one way audio.

What I like

I like that this camera works with most smartphones and tablets. In addition, this camera should work with most newer routers.

Possible drawback

1 possible drawback is the limited night viewing distance (25 feet). Also, the camera records in 720P and isn’t rated to work in extremely cold temperatures.

SMONET Wire Free Security Camera

The SMONET Wire Free Security Camera uses a 166-degree viewing angle two-way audio, and both cloud and local storage. In addition, this camera comes with motion detection and 60 days of standby time.

What I like

I like the cameras 166-degree viewing angle, motion detection and low battery alarm. In addition, I like that this camera comes with two-way audio and micro SD storage.

Possible drawback

The biggest drawback is the battery life. The battery life is 60 days of standby time. If there is nay action, the battery life will be greatly reduced. Also, I am a bit concerned that it only supports 2.4 GHz network connectivity.

REOLINK Argus 2 Security Camera

The REOLINK Argus 2 Security Camera works with both a rechargeable battery and solar panel. This camera also features two-way audio, color night vision, and local SD storage.

What I like

I really like the color night vision. Identifying objects is so much easier where there is color contrast. Also this cameras is rated IP65 waterproof and records on motion detection.

Possible drawback

One possible drawback is that this camera only supports 2.4 GHz network connectivity. Another possible drawback is that this camera only records to SD cards.

REOLINK Argus Pro Security Camera

The REOLINK Argus Pro Security Camera is very similar to the REOLINK Argus 2 Security Camera. The primary difference is that the Argus Pro DOESN’T include color night vision. The night vision in this camera records in black and white. This camera also records in 1080P resolution and includes local storage.

What I like

I like the flexibility of battery or solar power for this camera. I also like the two-way audio and a built in motion sensor.

Possible drawback

One small drawback is the night vision distance (36 feet). While it isn’t the shortest on this list, the longer the distance, the better. Also, I don’t like SD as the only storage option and the 2.4 GHz network connectivity.

Blink Indoor Home Security Camera

The Blink Indoor Home Security Camera is just like the Blink XT except that the Blink Indoor is not waterproof rated. Included in this camera is motion detection, live viewing and free cloud storage.

What I like

I like the free cloud storage and the 2 year battery life. Also, I like that this camera provides instant alerts, live viewing, and works with Amazon Echo.

Possible drawback

One huge drawback is that this camera does not include night vision. This camera will be rendered useless at night. This camera could not be used as a baby monitor or in any form after dark.

FREECAM Outdoor Wire Free Security Camera

This camera is very much like a camera that is listed earlier. This camera has one-way audio, night vision, and IP65 rater waterproof. Also, included in this camera is motion detection and 60 days of standby battery.

What I like

I like that his camera is waterproof rated and that the camera can be set up within 15 minutes. Finally, I like that this camera includes night vision.

Possible drawback

You should consider a different camera if you need 24/7 recording, live in a high traffic area, or if your wireless router supports 5 GHz only.

CANARY Flex Security Camera

The CANARY Flex Security Camera provides 24/7 live viewing, automatic night vision, and a built in rechargeable battery. In addition, this camera supports two-way audio and free cloud storage.

What I like

This camera is one of the few listed that has a built in rechargeable battery. Most of the other camera either have disposable batteries, or batteries that are detached. I also like the swivel base. This base allows you to configure the camera with precision.

Possible drawback

One drawback is the limited free cloud storage (24 hours). If you want longer storage, you will need to upgrade to a premium solution. The upgrade to 30 days still isn’t the best on the market.

AKASO Wire Free Security Camera

The AKASO Wire Fee Security Camera includes two rechargeable batteries, smart motion detection, and two-way audio. In addition, this camera has local SD storage and a viewing angle of 100-degrees.

What I like

I like the smart motion detection that can tell the difference between human and non-human movements. I also like that the included batteries can last up to 10 months on a single charge.

Possible drawback

Possible drawbacks include the 720P video resolution and the limited (30 feet) night vision distance. Also, while this camera appears to be weatherproof, it isn’t and can only be used indoors.

Homeiot Rechargeable Security Camera

The Homeiot Rechargeable Security Camera includes SD storage up to 128G, remote playback and night vision. This indoor only camera also features two-way audio and infrared motion sensors.

What I like

I like that this camera can use either SD or NVR storage, and the multiple security options (WEP, WPA, or WPA2). Also, I like that this camera uses H.264 for image compression and two-way audio

Possible drawback

I think the motion detection (26 feet) and the infrared (32 feet) feel a little short. Also, the recording resolution is only 720P and indicator lights eaisly give away its position.

SAFEVANT Wire Free Security Camera

The SAFEVANT Wire Free Security Camera features a built in rechargeable battery, local and cloud support, and two-way audio. In addition, this camera records in 1080P resolution and uses passive infrared to detect and record events at night.

What I like

I like the built in battery, and the flexibility to using cloud or local storage. Also, the battery will last up to 120 days on a single charge. Finally, I like that his camera can record up to 80 hours of continuous recording.

Possible drawback

This camera has a very limited night vision of 10 feet. Also, this camera only supports 2.4 GHz network connectivity. Also, another minor concern is that this camera can only be used indoors.

Possible drawback

Like the Arlo Pro series, I do not like the included base station. Base stations still need to be plugged into a wall outlet and possibly the router. In addition, this camera may not work in my region for almost 6 months.

NexTrend Wire Free Security Camera

The NexTrend Wire Free Security Camera is the only camera on this list that has a solar panel included on the camera. The top of the camera is actually a solar panel that powers the camera. In addition, this camera records in 1080P resolution and includes both local and cloud storage.

What I like

I really like the built in solar panel. This eliminates a huge concern with charging and recharging the camera. Also, this camera can be viewed anywhere with the smartphone and tablet app.

Possible drawback

What I like

Farsler Wireless Security Camera

The Farsler Wireless Security Camera features two-way audio, 1080P recording resolution, and both local and cloud storage. This camera features 130-degree viewing angle and weatherproof rated.

What I like

I like this camera will send push notifications to your smartphone or tablet, and the 130-degree viewing angle. Also, i like that this camera will send low battery notifications if the battery drops below 10%.

Possible drawback

Possible concerns include the 720P recording resolution and the limited (33 feet) night vision. In addition, the night vision is only 20 feet so it may be best to keep this camera indoors.

I like that this camera included both sound and motion notifications. The motion detection includes human detection and motion zones. Finally, I like the 150-degree field of view.

Possible drawback

Possible drawbacks include the free 24 hour recording history. I feel like recordings should include a minimum of 30 days. Also, I don’t like the magnetic mount. I feel like it is way too easy to steam the camera because it is connected by magnetics.

The Biback Solar Powered Security Camera is the second camera that has a solar panel attached to the camera. Also, this camera is IP67 waterproof rated and records in 1080P resolution.

What I like

Conclusion

Now its time to tell me what you think. Is your security camera on this list? Did I miss any? Which of these 31 is your favorite?

Additional questions

Do wireless security cameras run on batteries?

Yes, there are at least 31 security cameras that work on batteries. These batteries range from standard AA batteries, all the way up to manufacturer cameras that are rechargeable but work for a single brand.

For example, the Blink XT camera runs on AA batteries, and the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery only works with Ring rechargeable batteries.

How long do batteries last on wireless security cameras?

This depends on a few factors. First, it depends on the settings you configure. The higher the settings the shorter the battery life. Second, it depends on the number of events that occur in your cameras field of view. A camera that sees a lot of action is going to have a shorter batter life that one that doesn’t.

The third factory in battery life is the number of features included with the battery. In general, the more features, the shorter the battery life. One good example is the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery. This camera features a spotlight that turns on automatically at night when motion is detected. In this case, the spotlight, two-way audio, and video recording all play a part in the battery length.

The length of time a battery lasts depends greatly on the camera and manufacturer. For example, one of Blink XTs biggest selling points is that is has a battery life of up to two years.

Can wireless cameras work without internet?

I was surprised when I found this out, but yes wireless cameras can work without the internet. As long as the camera has a place to save events, they don’t need the internet.

In general, there are three places events are recorded and stored. Two of these three places do not need an internet connection to save recordings. If you are using a camera that does not use an NVR, you will need a router to connect your cameras to your local network.
